This water feature is a classic example of how so often in today's subdivision neighborhoods, the worst spot to maintain in the entire yard, is actually the best location for installing this natural looking setting of rocks, plants and water. Due to the steepness of the area, the home owners faced one set of difficulties if they tried to mow, and another if they tried to install and maintain traditional landscaping. Waterfalls, however, benefit from the steep slope, and an eyesore was soon turned into a place of beauty.

In this case the home owners did their own plantings after the hardscape was complete. We also had to temporarily remove a section of the fence in order to get the bigger boulders down into the yard. As is most often the case, we used no mortar when we set these rocks. Instead, we relied on our experience in following nature's example in stacking rocks. This keeps lime from leeching into the water from the concrete and also allows rocks to be more easily moved for future adjustments or repairs.
